Sirrende Dürre
5 sound installations at five locations
"Sirrende Dürre" by Roswitha von den Driesch and Jens Dyffort is one of the three artistic projects in the urban space that will be funded by the Initiative DRAUSSENSTADT (BESD) in 2022.
The sound installation "Sirrende Dürre" refers to the advancing drought in the soil, which was hardly noticeable until now, and makes it tangible in five sound installations spread across the district. Historical and current weather measurement data from the German Weather Service are translated into acoustic rhythms and can be heard through mini loudspeakers. These vary according to the data. Depending on the weather conditions, they become increasingly dense in dry weather and change into a buzzing sound. In contrast, the density of the rhythms decreases when it rains, they can only be heard sporadically, and then the ambient sounds come to the fore.
