Processes of transformation through examples of contemporary photography in Germany
Curated by Gabriele Muschter and Uwe Warnke, the exhibition addresses the impact that the switch between opposing social systems and rapidly developing technologies can have on photographers’ work. Through a selection of artistic photography in Germany from 1976 to the present, legible changes are made visible. Featuring work by: Tina Bara, Christian Borchert, Kurt Buchwald, Caroline Dlugos, Else Gabriel, Franz John, Barbara Klemm, Matthias Leupold, Manfred Paul, Rudolf Schäfer, Erasmus Schröter, and Maria Sewcz.
The thematic spectrum of the exhibited works ranges from reality manifested in photography versus enactment as an attempt to create new realities up through the medial expansion of photography into direct action and film. Further areas of emphasis are photography and transformation, the dignity of the quotidian as a subject for photography, and photography as an allegory of existential questions of being.
