The Wüstenrot Foundation Award for Documentary Photography
With works by Susanne Hefti, Christian Kasners, Jiwon Kim, Jens Klein, Alina Schmuch & Franca Scholz, Joscha Steffens, Andrzej Steinbach, Malte Wandel
With the advent of citizen journalism, social networks, and the accelerated circulation of photography, over the last number ofyears, documentary photography as a category has undergone a clear repositioning. How do such changes, caused primarily by digitalization, affect documentary photography and the role of photographers? Where and how will the medium have room to manoeuvre?
The Wüstenrot Foundation's Award for Documentary Photography supports outstanding artistic projects that explore the possibilities of the documentary. The prize is the most important of its kind in Germany and is aimed at photographers who concern themselves with real-world themes while continuously redefining photography's representational function through contemporary means.
A catalogue will be published for each edition of the prizes.
