The painters Ina Bierstedt, Bettina Carl, Silke Leverkühne and the photographer Marie Kratochvílová each reflect precisely on the relationship between model and image, between nature and art, between mimesis and creation. The four artists crystallise the transformative energies of nature in painting and photography, turning them into multi-layered imagery. A multitude of external and internal perceptions, sensory and emotional impressions are intertwined to form an overall picture that can become a mirror of sensations, intentions and moods. It is not a matter of a meagre copying of the model, but of a looking and recognising attempt to redeem the principle of nature. In each case specifically, in each case differently, a pictorial event is built up, forming a polyphonic and at the same time coherent interplay that translates the experience of nature into material and colour, into light and shadow.
